Preview: Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls
I’ve had the privilege of playing about 3 hours of Sony and Arc System Works’ upcoming fighter, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls...
And if my short time with the game is any indication, this has the potential to become one of the all-time greatest fighting games.
If you’re unaware, Tokon is a 4v4 2D fighting game from the team at Arc System Works, a company with a long history of making beat em ups and fighting games, such as Double Dragon, Guilty Gear and Blazblue. They make very kinetic, very anime fighting games and they’re extremely good at it.
So now they’ve got the Marvel license and they’re applying all of their history and expertise to make what is essentially a new Marvel Vs Capcom game, minus the Capcom and incessent air combos, and with one extra person on your team. It’s just what I’ve always wanted!
I played about an hour of it on stream, so if you’d like to see my poor fighting game skills you can watch that below, but the game itself feels tight and responsive, the graphics are fantastic, the framerate never drops (except at the rare times during the beta where there was lag) and even when I lost I still had a ton of fun, which I think is a good sign of a games quality.
The only thing I don’t like about this Closed Beta is the fact that it’s now over and all I can do is wait for the final game, or another beta, before I get to play it again.
Were you lucky enough to get into the beta? What were your thoughts? If you didn’t make it into the beta, ask me some questions about the game in the comments and I’ll try to answer them for you.
Stay Bad,
Aaron
